Social Media Engagement and Integration in 2016

By Brett Gossage

So,you've set up your website and made it look great - what next?

How are people going to see it? You could leave this up to fate and hope somebody stumbles onto your site by doing a Google search, but this is a real long shot!

You need to 'Engage' - an awful word that is actually of the greatest importance in showing others that there is a real person behind a pretty website.

Have you got a comments box, so people can interact with the article on the front page of your website? If you use WordPress to generate your site, then this is already done for you.

Is there a way of 'Liking' your content by just clicking a 'Like' button? Because this is easy for people to do, you will get a lot more 'Likes' than comments.

Always reply to your comments, good or bad. Engaging with people this way makes them feel special as you have taken time to reply to them personally.

Of course if you want to remove bad comments or spam, you need a facility to do this.

When replying to comments, be yourself rather than appearing as a big faceless corporation.

Now 'Integration' is just as important as engagement.

Has your website got links to your Facebook page? OK, so you don't want people going to your personal Facebook page, so set up another one that is more to do with your business.

Do you have a YouTube channel? Remember, that most people these days sadly prefer to watch videos rather than read the long article on your website. So make a video showing what you do and link to it on your website.

Proper integration works both ways, so on your YouTube channel, you should also have a link back to your website.

Sharing is also the norm these days. When you add content to any media site, you are asked whether you want to share it. You should always do this if you want to create a presence and get people to know you and your business.

Sharing automatically does the integration for you, usually you share to Facebook, or Twitter.

Obviously some types of media don't share well. For example, you can share a photo you have taken to your Facebook page or your Twitter account, but not to your YouTube account, and a video on YouTube can be shared to any of the others.

Make sure all your links from all your other sites link to your website, so browsers will have a better experience and find out more about you!
